When it comes to shorts, I’m very picky and will basically only accept pleated shorts or chinos. I absolutely avoid anything that goes over my knees. I think shorts should sit around 2–4 inches above the knee, meaning an acceptable inseam length is around 6–9 inches (15–23 cm), although I prefer not to go over 8 inches (20 cm) if possible. Also, in my case, the thigh measurement should be above 34 cm, and the leg opening should be 32–34 cm.

My rule is: if you’re not sure whether you can wear shorts in a specific situation, always go with trousers.

When you're looking for new shorts, make sure to check the measurements to see whether they’re mid-rise or high-rise, as well as the width of the thigh, the leg opening, and the inseam length. Whether you prefer belt loops or side adjusters is a personal preference, or it might come down to how you plan to style them.
