Essential Spring Footwear
A change of seasons requires a small change in footwear as well. On colder days, we can still wear boots or derbies, but we get to wear loafers more often. I tend to slowly start reaching for my canvas sneakers as well. Spring is the most enjoyable season for footwear because you can wear basically all styles, as the weather can drastically change from really cold to super warm in a matter of a day or two.
Loafers
Loafers are my favourite type of spring footwear. They’re also the most casual style that still looks very elegant. Once you find a pair that fits perfectly, loafers should feel super comfortable. A pair of brown suede loafers is one of the most versatile shoes you can own, you can wear them with almost everything and almost all year. Leather versions have a slightly more formal appeal, although they can be dressed down as well. If you choose an unlined pair, you can wear them without socks on warmer days.
Derby Shoes
This is another style you can wear all year long, although it’s probably not the best option for very warm days. During the spring–summer season, this is more of a bad‑weather shoe for many people.
Desert Boots (Chukka)
When it comes to pairing with outfits, they’re just like suede loafers, they can be matched with almost anything, but they have a slightly different visual appeal. Usually people who don’t like loafers prefer desert boots, or vice versa. You can wear them most of the year, although unlined versions aren’t very practical in the winter, since you’ll probably get cold. But for warmer days, they’re perfect, and you can even wear them without socks (I don’t see the need for that, but I know some people do it).
Canvas Sneakers
When it comes to sneakers, I prefer old-school canvas deck sneakers. They’re one of my favorite options for very casual outfits on really warm days. This style pairs well with just about everything, from a simple look with jeans and a T-shirt to a more layered look with a sportcoat, and even tailoring if you prefer a really relaxed approach.
Boat Shoes
Many people prefer boat shoes as their go-to summer footwear. You can get them in leather or suede and in many different colour variations, so you can definitely find a combination that will perfectly match your outfit or wardrobe colour palette. Also, I don’t think all boat shoes are equally wearable. Classic styles are very casual, but cleaner versions, like the ones from Morjas, can also be dressed up and work well with relaxed summer tailoring.
All these styles are really versatile, so one could have all of them. But on the other hand, if you’re more of a minimalist or on a tight budget, you can get through the spring-summer season with just a pair of loafers. It really depends on your personal style and preferences. But remember, when it comes to footwear, fit is the most important thing if you want to be comfortable. Sometimes you have to accept that some models, no matter how much you might like them, won’t work for you. In that case, don’t get discouraged, but keep searching for that perfect fit.
