Casual Autumn Style Inspiration from Alessandro Squarzi

Autumn is here, so I thought I’d share some casual style inspiration for the season. And I don’t think there’s anyone who does casual style better than Alessandro Squarzi.

For those who don’t know him, he has one of the largest and finest vintage collections, and is also the co-owner of the brand Fortela. But in reality, he’s so much more, a person who appreciates history, craftsmanship, and good design. A man who developed his personal taste and style from things he genuinely appreciates. He’s also a true style icon, appreciated and respected by everyone in the menswear community. Based on his personal style alone, it’s very clear that his biggest inspirations come from workwear, military, and western wear. And he’s Italian, so there’s always some tailoring as well. No matter what he wears, he always manages to look completely effortless and natural. If Sprezzatura (I dislike that term, because most people who use it are trying too hard to look effortless) were a person, it would be Alessandro. One of the reasons behind this is definitely that he wears a lot of vintage clothes - pieces that are well worn. And worn clothes just drape better and look more genuine and natural, which is also what he strives to achieve with everything they make at Fortela.

If we had to describe his style in one sentence, it would be: white or washed blue jeans, military jackets, and suede loafers. And then even more denim and military pieces. He mostly uses a simple color palette - navy, olive, white, brown (or other earth tones), and sometimes a pop of color. He keeps things simple and rarely wears more than three colors.

Autumn brings out the best in his style, so I wanted to share it as inspiration for the season.
