Autumn-Winter Tonal Capsule Wardrobe with Poszetka
Autumn is here and brands have released their new collections. I enjoy going through collections and lookbooks for inspiration, and to maybe find something that could improve my wardrobe. I have a great relationship with Poszetka, so after going through their new autumn-winter collection and seeing many neutral pieces, I realized I could continue with a tonal theme I did with their spring–summer collection, and make a neutral autumn-winter casual capsule collection.
Preview of the whole capsule wardrobe
I wanted to keep this capsule wardrobe as minimal as it gets, but still very versatile, so the focus was on how to use as few pieces as possible to create as many looks for different occasions, and how outerwear can totally change the whole outfit.
So there are three pieces of outerwear - a raglan wool overcoat, a Barbour waxed jacket, and a more casual olive jacket. I chose only one sport coat, because it doesn’t make as much difference as outerwear, two pieces of knitwear - one in a dark color and one in a light, both rollnecks, because all crewnecks in neutral colors were already sold out in my size. Otherwise I would prefer one crewneck and one rollneck. And only one shirt, because when you wear a rollneck you don’t really wear a shirt, but also because one is enough to offer some variety in this casual capsule collection.
I also picked only two pairs of trousers, again, one light and one dark, to make the most of a smaller selection. There are also two pairs of shoes, plus a tie. This whole collection leans a bit more casual, but it still offers the option to create a few smarter looks, but there’s definitely nothing really formal this time.
Brown Donegal Tweed Raglan Coat
I would say that the raglan overcoat is a standout piece in their autumn–winter collection. It’s a belted version, and they perfected the cut - it’s the right length, looser, and the collar is big and sturdy, so it stands up and protects your neck when it’s windy. I especially like this one in brown Donegal tweed herringbone.
The raglan overcoat is a piece that works with basically everything, it looks good with a suit, but also with jeans and a sweater, and it can be worn with every outfit from this collection. As the fit is more relaxed, I sized down to M.
Barbour Bedale Waxed Jacket in Olive
Since the overcoat comes in a lighter shade of brown, I wanted a piece of darker outerwear that you can dress up or down, and works perfectly alongside the raglan overcoat. A Barbour waxed jacket is exactly that, plus, it’s shorter than the overcoat and has a totally different aesthetic, so it’s also a very versatile piece. I wear size 40.
Olive Jacket
This is a piece from the IWP archives, their latest collaboration with the Polish Institute of Design. It’s a remake of a garment once worn by researchers in the Bioclimatic Chamber in Liberec. This short, almost trucker-like jacket is the most casual piece of outerwear in this collection, and since it was made after actual workwear, I think it looks best with denim, but it can definitely work with pleated trousers or even a tie. I wear size XL.
Beige Houndstooth Undyed Wool Sportcoat
This is probably my favorite piece of the season. I really love this color of undyed wool, and the houndstooth pattern looks perfect in this shade. it’s very neutral but still very interesting to the eye, and in this shade, it works great with tailoring but also with very casual looks. It pairs well with more than just neutrals, and the fabric’s weight is light enough for layering or wearing indoors. I wear size 52.
Oatmeal Donegal Yarn Rollneck
Oatmeal Donegal Yarn Rollneck
As I mentioned above, I would prefer a Shetland crewneck, but since they were already out of stock, I went with two rollnecks instead. This one really works with everything, and even though it’s thicker, it can still be worn with tailoring, but it also looks great worn on its own. On the photos I wear size L, but later I tried on size M and realized that I could size down, it looks even better since there’s less stacked fabric around my waist. It’s not released online yet, but it should be available next week!
Brown Merino Wool Turtleneck
This merino rollneck is a perfect layering piece and works especially well with tailoring, so it’s a great way to dress down a suit. I wear size L.
Yellow Stripe Brushed OCBD Shirt
Since this is a really neutral collection, I didn’t want a brown or white shirt, as it could be a bit too dull(boring?), and this yellow striped shirt works well with the tonal color palette but still adds a bit more life than if I had chosen something neutral. It’s also a shirt that can be worn more casually, but it works with a suit as well. It’s made from brushed cotton oxford, so it’s super comfortable, I would even say cosy. I wear size 41.
I also used two ties - the Green Diamond Print Silk Tie to add some color and create more contrast, and the Brown Golfers Motif Jacquard Silk Tie as a more neutral option, but not too plain.
Brown Corduroy Trousers
Brown Corduroy Trousers
I think corduroy is almost a must-have during the autumn–winter season. It’s a fabric that feels serious and relaxed at the same time, but is also warm and soft. These are the dressier trousers in this collection, so I would pick them for more serious looks. I wear size 48.
White Selvedge Jeans
Even though many might disagree, I love to wear light trousers all year. Of course, I wouldn’t wear them when it’s pouring or snowing outside, but luckily there are not many such days here. So for a neutral capsule collection, I think white (or ecru) jeans are a must-have - they are so versatile, and even though they are a very casual piece, they always look so elegant. I wear size 32.
You could make this collection even smaller if you remove one piece of outerwear, which one depends on your preferences. You could also make it work with only one pair of footwear; in that case, I would go with black leather loafers, especially because suede doesn’t really work with dark brown corduroy. But since they did not have black leather loafers in stock, I decided to go with two pairs of footwear to add some variety. I went with black leather brogues to pair with the brown corduroy trousers, and brown suede Kleman Padror Tyrolean shoes to be worn with white jeans.
